The Understanding of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) in Dentistry

Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) are a significant advancement in dentistry, dramatically simplifying the treatment of many orthodontic cases. They provide simple and minimally invasive insertion and removal, an innovative approach that does not rely on patient compliance, reduce the number of oral surgeries required, and expand the types of orthodontic issues that can be treated. TAD of the IZC (infra-zygomatic crest) and the BS (buccal shelf) is another step forward. TADs placed in the retromolar zone of the lower jaw or alveolar crest formation create skeletal anchorage for a predictable and effective result. TADs allow distalization of the entire maxillary arch without extractions or patient cooperation. Placing TADs in the mandibular buccal shelf is a dependable form of extra-alveolar support for conservatively correcting Class III malocclusions without tooth extraction or orthognathic surgery. Because the IZC is a common site for TAD placement, soft tissue irritation is a common issue. New DSI Zygomatic TADs have been developed to successfully overcome this obstacle. The body's surface is half thread, half smooth. Their innovative design reduces the likelihood of trauma, inflammation, and patient discomfort. TADs result in significantly less anchorage loss than other conventional anchorage maintenance methods in patients with normal facial patterns, according to extensive research.

TADs also resulted in significantly less anchorage loss in normal/hypodivergent patients than other methods of anchorage used in the same patients.DSI Zygomatic TADs are made from the same 6Al-4V Eli grade 5 titanium as all DSI implants. The material has incredible physical properties; it is stronger, lighter, and more biocompatible than steel, and it has higher fracture toughness. Titanium is nontoxic, nonallergenic, and extremely corrosion-resistant. The material's full tissue compatibility, however, is where it truly shines. A 0.8 mm opening in the head of the Zygomatic TAD is specially designed to accommodate elastic strands, ligature, and arches up to 0.21"x0.25 in diameter.

Case after case, performed by such masters of dentistry as Chris Chang and John Lin, and hundreds of happy patients, speak for themselves. Incredible treatment outcomes in what appears to be a surgical issue, but turned out to be a minimally invasive procedure.
